Surgery of the nose or Rhinoplasty is performed to increase or decrease the size of the nose, sculpt and change the shape of the tip, bridge, bones, cartilage or nostril size of the nose. Nothing has a greater impact on how a person looks than the size and shape of the nose. Because the nose is the most defining characteristic of the face, a slight alteration can greatly improve one's appearance.
It's important to have realistic goals and expectations regarding the outcome of the surgery. It's also important to consider why you would have nasal surgery. The goal is to improve the nose aesthetically, to better balance with other facial features. 18 year olds and younger must have the consent of their parents.
Surgery is performed through small incisions on the inside of the nose. There are no external incisions. The skin is lifted off the cartilage and bone framework of the nose and then sculpted to the appropriate shape. The skin is then placed in position and dissolvable sutures are used to close the incisions inside the nose.
